Ask friends, relatives and people you trust what books their kids read. 3. Think about books you read as a child and consider whether they are right for your child. 4. Ask your librarian to recommend books. 5. Look at books awarded Caldecott, Newberry, and Coretta Scott King awards. 6. Vary your selection and try different genres to hold your child's interest. 7. Make sure that the stories and illustrations present different issues in positive ways..
